Benefits of using leca
Preparing leca
1. It is important to clean your Leca before you use it, Leca is covered in a dry residue. The easiest way to do this is to use a strainer, rinse until the water runs clear. Then rinse with boiling water this will help to sterilise the leca.
The best thing about Leca is you can reuse it just remove the plant and repeat the cleaning steps.
2. If you are transferring a plant from soil to Leca make sure you gently remove all the dirt from the roots. Any soil left on the plant can lead to root rot or fungus. Fill your container about 1/4 - 1-2 of the way with Leca, Add your plant and then fill the rest of the container with leca.
3. Now water! Since plants get their nutrients from soil and Leca doesn’t contain soil you will need to add nutrients. We recommend using our hydro-plantonic fertiliser. It is especially designed for any hydroponic set up. Depending on the size of your container and 1-5 drops to your Leca and then add water until the roots are covered. I usually wait until the Leca is almost dry then top up with water and add fertiliser every 2-3 top ups.
